Governor’s May Revision Budget Dismantles Successful Behavioral Health Crisis Investments
Eliminates State Mobile Crisis Response Team Support, Cuts 988 Response
Sacramento, CA – The County Behavioral Health Directors Association (CBHDA) released the following statement from CBHDA Executive Director Michelle Doty Cabrera in response to Gov. Newsom’s May Budget Revision:
“The Governor’s May Revision continues to propose the elimination of state funding for our state’s recently implemented statewide 24/7 mobile crisis benefit, and leaves our 988 Suicide Prevention Hotline Centers underfunded at a time of increasing demand and demonstrated success.
“Through the Medi-Cal Mobile Crisis Response benefit, counties have successfully saved lives throughout California, and reduced law enforcement involvement, and unnecessary hospital ED visits, saving multiple systems time and money, while also saving lives.
"We call on the Governor to work with the Legislature to continue funding these life-saving programs and support counties in meeting this moment."
